- Parents we are opening up new centres this coming week and are in need of empty boxes and 4L milk jugs.. The boxes can be shoe boxes, cereal boxes etc. If you have any empty boxes and/or empty milk jugs that you are not using and could send them in that would be appreciated! - Friendly reminder that if you have not already paid your fees for the Mad Scientist in class filed trip to pay as soon as possible. You may do so by paying online through your CBE account. - We are celebrating Valentines Day! If your child wishes to bring in valentines for their classmates we ask that you bring enough valentines for every child in the class (46 students). We also ask that you do not personalize the valentines and you only write who it is from. Today we read Over and Under the Snow by Kate Messner. We talked about the animals in the book and what animals are over and under the snow. Ask your child what they learned today. What types of animals are under the snow? What types of animals are over the snow? Ask your child if they can tell you one living thing that is both under and over the snow .........
We are going to continue our work in our visual journals by finishing our drawings, colouring and adding the beginning letters of words. Maybe you can spot things that live over the snow next time you are out for a family walk or drive. Make conversation in the car and make learning fun!!! FYI

We also practiced printing our W's and using Popsicle sticks to create W watermelons with watermelon smelly markers. Check our our amazing work! Later we plan on adding seeds and writing how many we added.
We have now finished our Van Gogh project. Today we designed shape vases to hold our beautiful sunflowers. Check out some of our cool work… This week we have opened some exciting centers including a dig site, an ice cream parlour and a race track. Ask your child which center is their favourite. We have also been discussing the planet earth and the magnificent lunear eclipse that just took place on Sunday night. Ask your child about the moon. FYI...
We will be completing the letter Ww at some point this week and would like to share a watermelon treat with your kiddos. If you would not like your child to have watermelon please email us. This week in Kinder we have been learning about shapes. We have discussed the difference between 2D and 3D shapes and what things are shaped like in the real world. Some examples the kids gave were; Pizza is shaped like a circle and a triangle. The clock is a circle. The blocks are rectangles. A ruler is a rectangle. The brush on a paintbrush is a square. The earth is a sphere. Icecream has a cone. We have also been working on problem solving in math. While reading the story Each Orange Has 8 slices by, Paul Giganti Jr. we paused to solve the problem presented in the story. We used the pictures to help us count the objects an answer the questions. When we finished reading the story we worked with a few friends to solve problems using felt pieces to create our own pictures to help us count. Ask you child if they had the flower problem or the house problem... In gym the kids are currently working on the balance beams practicing the proper dismount and working on different way to get across the beam at different levels. Check out some of our favorite centers this week...
